Report from the combined planning groups
enfeedia RSS feed publisher FeedBack ( 0) A meeting was held on Sept 5 during which information was presented covering all three planning groups. This posting reports on the progress and findings, and includes an update as recent as hours before publishing this report.

(Invitations were sent to all members of the Advisory Group, comprising everyone who self-rated as "Proficient" or "Intermediate", in other words, everyone on the Friends of Bocce list who have substantial experience playing Bocce. Three members of this Advisory Group volunteered to lead three planning groups; Organization, Game Rules, and Scheduling. About 10 members or the Advisory Group populate those three groups.)

Ken presented a case (three slides shown) wherein all three play formats being considered can co-exist in a common scheduling system for sharing the four courts. Moreover, it appears four courts will serve us well for a large Bocce club that is anticipated. Click the title of this item to open the PDF file of the slides. You'll see that fictitious names for the three formats were used to avoid confusion that is created using the terms "league" and "tournament". People have different backgrounds playing their respective formats and what those words mean to them. Very little text is presented on the slides, but it will become apparent how the formats with a fixed 2-hour play duration and a format not constrained by time but rather complete when the match complete co-exist.

There was agreement with the findings, and therefore the proposal to schedule courts in accordance with the proposed system is accepted. With that foundation, the next step is to conduct a structured survey to determine the interests and preferences of all Friends of Bocce that will lead to a good "coming out" allocation of days/times/courts to the three formats.

Ellyn provided an update as to arranging a meeting with Mike Taylor (SBR GM), Tim Fudge (Facilities) and Dani Herbert (assistant to the GM). She reviewed the questions and issues pertaining to the interface between the HOA and the Bocce club. Today, she got confirmation that Mike and Dani will be meeting (not heard from Tim) with Ellyn and Roger representing the Organization planning group on September 18. Kudos to Ellyn for calling for the meeting and successfully getting commitment in the relative near term.

Thanks to everyone who vigorously presented the case for the three formats, leading us to support all formats in an extremely flexible way. Fun and Fairness were on display with these proceedings!
