Winter Fun in Plumas County
FeedBack ( 0) Perhaps you're a buyer interested in purchasing property or a house in Plumas County. You've heard or experienced all of the fun summer activities the area has to offer: fishing, canoeing, hiking, picnicking, or just relaxing creek-side. As you are considering your possible move to the area, you may wonder what Plumas County can offer you in the winter season. Here are just a few of the many events that are held in the area throughout the winter.
A very popular tradition in Plumas County is the annual Christmas tree lightings in the Graeagle and Portola areas. On November 30th, Portola will hold its Rotary Sponsored Christmas tree lighting in the downtown area. Rotary is putting on a parade that begins at 5:00 pm. If you would like to be in the parade, just decorate your car, boat, or atv and line up at 5:00 pm. Santa will also be making an appearance at the Portola Tree Lighting and will be taking free pictures with your children!
Carolers, horse drawn trolley rides, Santa Claus, and the well known little red shops will be found on December 3rd at the Graeagle Holiday Festival. Located in the quaint downtown of Graeagle, this old-fashioned festival and Christmas tree lighting is fun for all ages. This Festival will take place from 1:00 pm until 5:00 pm.
Plumas Eureka State Park hosts the annual Johnsville Longboard Races. This event takes you back in time with skis and clothing worn by those in the days of the original Longboard Races. This family event will be held January 15th and March 18th, both days from 11:00 am until 3:00 pm.
The annual Calpine Elks Crab Feed is on January 25th and 26th at the Portola Elks Lodge. Dinner is at 6:00 pm, but social hour begins at 5:00 pm. This is a great community event with fresh, delicious crab. Hurry and get your tickets now because they sell out very quickly! To purchase tickets, you can call Eric Preinitz at (530) 559-2425. All proceeds go towards the Elks Lodge projects around the community.
Looking for a winter get-away for Presidents' Weekend, February 18th and 19th? Come to Plumas County for a family weekend of fun in the Sierra snow! This weekend long event is held at Grizzly Creek Ranch and includes activities such as sled dog races, carriage rides, cross country skiing, snow shoeing, sledding, tubing, and even snowmobile rides!
Although Plumas County is known for being a summer attraction, it also provides residents and tourists alike with many family friendly events for the Holidays and winter months.
