Colorado Club is entertained by the melodrama, Quest of the Cavemen

The most recent event for the Colorado Club was attending a performance of "Quest of the Cavemen" at The Great American Playhouse in Oro Valley on Friday, May2. The playhouse offers musical comedies with a melodramatic twist that kept the group entertained, booing and hissing the dastardly villains that deserved our scorn while cheering for the heroes and heroines. The more we participated, the more the actors engaged with the audience.

The show started before the curtain went up, giving us our first entertainment of the evening. The piano player not only introduced us to the show, he sets the tone for the evening by encouraging us to become very active with the players and the singing during the show. Words to the songs he is playing are projected onto the screen, preparing the audience for the show they are about to see.

The wait staff was dressed in cavemen costumes as they served the group pizzas, drinks and the never ending bowls of free popcorn. Everyone set the tone for the show.

But after the cavemen achieve their quest, the performers came back out for what is called the "Olio" following the play with more singing, dancing and comedy.

Some were skeptical of what a local performance might be, but at the end of the night, we left with a satisfaction of an entertaining evening and talk of attending future performances.

The Great American Playhouse is located at 13005 N Oracle Rd, north of Tangerine Road. (520) 512-5145 - greatamericanplayhouse.com (click item title).

With Superior Sommelier Skills, the Colorado Club Members Enjoy A Wonderful Evening of Wine Tasting
enfeedia RSS feed publisherOn 11-12-13, the SaddleBrooke Ranch Colorado Club gathered at the home of Alastair and Helga Stone at E Arroyo Grande Dr. Besides 36 members getting to know our SBR neighbors with Colorado connections, we had fun doing a blind or better yet, Bagged Wine Tasting.

Each couple brought a bottle of wine in the range of $10-18. As they arrived, the wines were snatched away from their owner and secretly secured in a brown paper bag (... this sounds like skid row winos...). Each wine was given a number and with scorecards in hand, and our superior sommelier skills, we rated these 17 wines with precision and great thought (after 17 wines, not sure how accurate we got).

After all the wine tasting scorecards were gathered, the organizers of the Bagged Wine Tasting, Bob Hills and Linda Shannon-Hills, scored the wines to announce the winner of the red wines to be Al & Nancy Swenson with their Columbia Crest Merlot and Gretchen & Ray Malaski's with their white wine, Piesporter Michelsberg Spatlese. Many came with their favorite wine, confident their wine would be rated the best, and were surprised they rated their own wine lower than other wines. Although it was not a professional wine tasting, it was great fun.

Thanks to all that attended and thanks to Alastair and Helga for opening their home to this great group.

Our First Gathering
enfeedia RSS feed publisherThis first gathering of the Colorado Club was held on Colorado Day, August 1, 2013 at the home of Bob Hills and Linda Shannon-Hills on Hancock Drive with 37 people bringing beverage and dessert to share with friends and new acquaintances. The casual atmosphere allowed the group to mingle and talk about living in their new home at the Ranch, where they lived in Colorado and why they moved to Arizona.
