Q: What do pickleball, DJ`ing, and Cabo San Lucas have in common?
photoenfeedia RSS feed publisher FeedBack ( 0) A: Steve Phillips. Most of you probably don`t know that Steve, member of the SBRPA and expert pickleball referee, is also a darn good DJ. Steve has been DJ`ing for many years in Virginia, Maryland, Washington, and Arizona (Phoenix). He is now DJ`ing here in the Tucson area most recently with a gig at the All The Buzz cafe in Oro Valley.

So what`s that got to do with Cabo? Steve was recently invited to spend a week at the five star Secrets resort in Cabo to collaborate with their DJ`s -- cross training on the latest technologies, DJ`ing parties, and sharing playlists. Funny thing, during the course of the week he mentioned pickleball to their staff. The next thing you know they were taping off tennis courts and buying equipment, with Steve giving pickleball instructions to the Secrets tennis coach. He seems to have generated quite a bit of excitement about the game.

He returned home today and will be appearing again at the All The Buzz cafe (located in the Walgreens shopping center at Oracle and Vistoso) this Saturday, July 25, from 5pm to 7pm. Come on out and have some fun, and support Steve in his endeavors. Their website says $2 drinks from 3pm to 7pm. (For those of you who saw him last time, this gig, unlike that last one, will be indoors out of the heat.)

Be sure to stay current with Steve`s activities by viewing his nearly completed website, Cranknn.com. Videos will be added in the near future showing snippets of his work. And no doubt an endless stream of photos.

Festival Factoid: Mighty Mettle Medalists Along 90 Meters of Misty Basin Amass Many Medals
photoenfeedia RSS feed publisher FeedBack ( 0) A medals-per-meter record? Perhaps. Residents of homes on five adjecent lots along 90 meters of Misty Basin Road (taking into account both sides of the street) brought home seven medals in the recent highly successful Pickbleball Festival. There are no intervening homes that were without medals.

Medalists and their partners in various events are:

Rudy Dominguez (w/ Lon Allness)
Rudy Dominguez (w/ Soni Lee)
Linda Gorman (w/ Linda Richter)
Linda Gorman (w/ Craig McHugh)
Bud Fairbanks (w/ Marv Richter)
Edie Kellogg (w/ Carol Kramer)
Mary Stolz (w/ Corine Sturdivant)

Click photo to enlarge it.

And of course, like all of you would do, they used this as an excuse for a party at the Stolz residence they dubbed "The Hardware Party". Naturally, heavy metal music was played (for as long as they could stand it).

If you happen to be part of a similarly successful "medal cluster", you are invited to contact any of the medal winners above to possibly muster up a medal-per-meter mini-tournament for bragging rights. Or preferably a party. Minimum requirements are five similarly adjacent homes, because the Misty Basin Players thought of it first.

New purpose of this feed: Use the "open mic" to speak your mind, and more!
enfeedia RSS feed publisher FeedBack ( 0) What was the "news" feed is now re-purposed to be a channel for all members to communicate ideas, suggestions, stories, humor, critiques, 'scoops', photos, videos ... whatever! ... to members who subscribe to the feed. Postings will appear on the SBR Clubs Pickleball website for all to see. This will be a hoot, so stay connected!

This new direction reflects that there is no desire to repeat information that is posted on the Hills' website, but rather to offer human interest stories and items that you won't find there. Photos and videos you provide will appear on the SBR Clubs Pickleball website, not some private site of a pickleball player.

How will it work? First, postings will not be too frequent, probably no more than monthly. So don't worry about your in-basket being flooded with email alerts. Second, it will be EASY. Just email your item (title plus 'article') to Ken Gorman. If you have a photo or video, attach it to the email. Ken will do the rest. If you want to post anonymously, just say so, and your identity will not be disclosed. But keep in mind, your thoughts will be more credible if you share your identity.

Do you have something to share about your experience playing in a tournament? This is the place. How about a concern over court scheduling? Here. Proposal for modification of the rating system? Also here. Heard a rumor? Tell me, and I will chase it down and post the truth here. Looking to arrange a practice group at some off-time? Tell others here. Have a skills improvement suggestion, a funny story, a paddle recommendation? Anything, as long as it pertains to pickleball, will appear here. Think of this as your blog that happens to be shared with other members of the club.

Nothing objectionable will be posted, and you know what that means. When in doubt, a few "secret" judges will be asked their opinion before the posting is accepted.

A posting is already being written for tomorrow, will be titled "Festival Factoid".

Friedenberg "Winning Pickleball" video website now live!
photoenfeedia RSS feed publisher FeedBack ( 0) The Winning Pickleball website offers, for a fee, viewing of streaming videos of the clinic conducted by Mark Friedenberg at SaddleBrooke Ranch last year. The videos are the same as offered on the SBR website to logged-in club members at no charge.

The site was designed to be mobile-friendly meaning that no matter the screen size of the device you are using -- from smartphone to full-size desk-top computer -- the site will be easy to use. Everything resizes based on the screen size of your device, and in some cases, layout is modified to fit the small screen.

The club has worked out an arrangement with Mark wherein the club will benefit from Mark's services in the future in return for Mark receiving license to the videos.

If you have comments or suggestions about the site, please contact Ken Gorman by going to Contact Us, filling out the form, and clicking the Contact Webmaster button.
