UPDATE: First Annual SBR Pickleball Festival -- Pix Available
photoenfeedia RSS feed publisher FeedBack ( 0) UPDATE: Click here to view the finals day slide show by Bob Hills.

The SBR Pickleball club hosted their first Pickleball Festival here at the Ranch April 14th through April 19th. This fun event began with random pairings. Winners of a match went on to the next match as opponents. We have a list of participants as well as the calendar available.

There were a few scares with the weather, but no matches had to be cancelled. 60 medals were earned for women's doubles, men's doubles and mixed doubles for 2.0, 2.5, 3.0 and 3.5 brackets. It was great fun for players and spectators alike. Each day of play, there were 30+ spectators cheering the players on. The support was amazing. The festival ended with a big Taco party in the Bistro.

Way to go Ranch!

Annual Pickleball Social
enfeedia RSS feed publisher FeedBack ( 0) 79 members and guests attended the annual Pickleball Club party at the Cadillac Chaparral on June 12th. Many wore the club shirts in purple or white along with cowboy boots. Some were looking pretty handsome in their cowboy hats as well.

We feasted on barbecued chicken, barbecued pork, potato salad, cole slaw, cowboy beans, and cake.

Door prizes included 1 hour pickleball lessons by some of our higher ranking players, club shirts, paddles and bags.

A special thank you to the organizers! Everyone had a good time. With the rapid growth of our club, next years event promises to be even bigger and better.

Sun City Vistoso Pickleball Players (2.0 & 2.5) Visiting
enfeedia RSS feed publisher FeedBack ( 0) Some 2.0 and 2.5 pickleball players from Sun City Vistoso (Oro Valley) will be coming here on Tuesday, October 21 to play with/aqainst our players at the same level. Since we do not do much team play at those levels, our guests will be given numbers and we will use the regular format.

Their 2.0 players will be here at 8:00 a.m., and the 2.5 players at 10:00 a.m. If you feel like asking them to join you for refreshments at the Bistro afterwards that would be a good thing.

We plan on having their 3.0 and up players here later, depending upon the availability of our folks, many of whom will be traveling to tournaments.

Thanks...

Rich

2015 Happy Trails Classic = More Medals For SBR Players
enfeedia RSS feed publisher FeedBack ( 0) Our pickleball club sent 6 teams across the state to Surprise, Arizona to play in the Happy Trails Classic. We came home with 3 medals. Bill Reynolds and his partner Linda Valencia (Albuquerque, NM) took the Bronze Medal in 4.0 Mixed Doubles on Tuesday. Thursday, in 3.0 Men’s Doubles, Bob Hills and Paul Frederickson took the Silver and Mike Fielding and Chris Jerman took the Bronze. So our "purple presence" was felt on the west side of Phoenix.

The next tournament is next Wednesday through Saturday at Mission Royale in Casa Grande, Arizona. This is roughly and hour drive west on I10 - so come watch if you can. You can find the schedule on PickleballTournaments.Com or contact Bob Hills, Chris Jerman or Bill Reynolds for more info.

Mission Royale Pickleball Tournament
enfeedia RSS feed publisher FeedBack ( 0) Ranch Team Captures Mission Royale Gold!

Mission Royale (Casa Grande, AZ) had its challenges holding their 4th annual pickleball tournament. The 4 day tournament started well with sunny skies, but during day two, play was suspended because of rain – a rain which continued for the next 2 days. In the end, the tournament was condensed to men’s and women’s doubles only even with the addition of a make-up day. But then the make-up day had a delayed start due to fog. The mixed doubles competition was cancelled completely.

While the sky may have been gray, one of our Ranch teams successfully captured 1st place and a gold medal in the Men’s 3.0 bracket. Mike Fielding and Chris Jerman swept the winners half of the bracket and then stumbled slightly in the gold medal match (losing 2 games straight) but came back to win the tie breaker 16-14. This accomplishment completes a 3 week run of tournaments where the Ranch 3.0 men have won 2 gold medals, 2 silver medals and 1 bronze medal. Go Ranch!

Other than Mike and Chris, the Ranch had 4 other teams compete at Mission Royale. The rain delay and mixed doubles cancelation caused two other teams to drop out.

Next week, Bill Reynolds and Rick Hanson will head to Mesa to compete in the All City Pickleball Tournament on Wednesday.

We will try to post updates as to who has registered for each event on the Pickleball Court Message Board once a week (Friday or Saturday). If you are looking for a partner, you can check there to see who is already taken. If you want your name posted on a sheet as “Needing A Partner”, please send an email to Bob Hills. We will also post that list on the Message Board.

We will need volunteers to help run various aspects of the Festival. At the bottom of the Registration Form, there are several boxes indicating volunteer opportunities. Please give some consideration to being a volunteer for this event.
