Don't procrastinate! Producing video for your feed can be much easier than you imagine.
FeedBack ( 1) Although the enhanced visitor experience and great SEO benefits of video in your feed items is generally well appreciated, too often publishers procrastinate doing so believing it will be too much of an undertaking. Here are two ways to create compelling videos without using a video camera--in fact no camera at all. First I'll cover those methods then offer some additional comments that can get you into video in no time at all.
Animoto.com provides a system for easily producing videos from still photographs. You select a theme including royalty free music, then upload your pictures and give it the go-ahead. Within a short time, you'll have a very attractive and exciting video with animation coordinated with the music.Tell Animoto to upload the video to your YouTube account for the world to see. Copy the "share" code for that video provided by YouTube, paste that code into your feed item (simple instructions provided by Enfeedia), and within seconds after publishing your item, it appears everywhere your feed appears with the video embedded.
Xtranormal provides a method for creating a video using animated cartoon-like characters selected from a large collection of characters from dozens of styles. You create the video by typing in text for the characters' lines, and xtranormal converts that text to audio. You also control camera angles and effects from your keyboard. You don't even need still photos for this method. You can upload your finished video to YouTube and embed it in your feed items just as you do for Animoto.
Animoto is especially useful for presenting still photos in a way far superior to slide shows, even those with Ken Burns pan-and-zoom effects. Xtranormal videos are great for both serious and humorous pieces, it's up to you. Here's an Enfeedia video illustrating a informational application using Xtranormal: Nancy Does RSS.
As promised, here are some additional comments about producing videos. If you have a smartphone with video recording capability, it's a snap to shoot a video and upload it to YouTube. For example, after recording a video clip using an iPhone, you can upload it to your YouTube account from a menu provided by the iPhone application.
Finally, don't overlook having videos produced for you professionally. Videos are too important to ignore, and I think you will be pleasantly surprised at how affordable this option can be. In 2012, we will initiate our Enfeedia Partners program, with partners offering a wide range of services, including video production, that you can choose from to best fit your needs and budget.
