September 18 2019 Meeting of Organization Planning Group with the HOA
enfeedia RSS feed publisherThe attached document provides Roger Bailey's notes of the meeting. We both want to make sure you know we're very much in the planning stage -- not just the club, but also the HOA regarding the bocce amenity. You will no doubt have questions, but please be patient. Answers will be forthcoming. You should know what's going on during the process notwithstanding the unanswered questions.

Two quick comments:

1. The meeting was very positive. Although lacking details, from what I hear from Roger, there is broad agreement on concepts and an agreed upon way to continue these discussions. Kudos to Roger!

2. The HOA requires there be time for residents to use the courts outside of club times. We know that, and we totally agree. There seemed to be uncertainty on the HOA's part, so I just want to point that out in case you hear otherwise from the grapevine.

The HOA committee will be asking questions to Tim, Mike and Daniel at a meeting with the time designated at their convenience. The answers received may affect the other committees so results will be posted within a day of the meeting. Meeting notes and promises will be forward to all members attending the meeting and those invited asking for a response of receiving the email.

The questions we hope to have time to ask are the following:

➤How wide are the courts going to be and how much spacing is being allowed for between courts?

➤How much standing space will be at each end of the court to accommodate players and others to accommodate viewers?

➤Will there be benches or equivalent at the ends of the court, or anywhere, of the court to accommodate player and others to accommodate viewers?

➤Will the courts be lighted, and if so, how late into the evening, and how early in the morning, will it be permitted to have lights on.

➤Will there be any restrictions as to clubs use of the courts other than non-club time that the club and the HOA can agree on, and start-of-day and end-of-day play times assuming lighting is not a factor, to be "compatible" with the community?

➤Will the amenity include the balls, or will the club have to supply their own? If the latter, who provides balls for non-club-time use of the courts?

➤ Besides artificial turf on concrete and crushed oyster shell, there's a third choice: decomposed granite. You can play on it directly or use it for a professional base for artificial turf. Or not. If you use turf there is easy maintenance, it should go on the"1/4- granite" (pronounced "one-quarter-minus granite") for drainage. The person starting the Wine club did some major amount of artificial turf on his lot and is very knowledgeable about it because of his research and playing experience. He might be willing to be a "guest" attendee in a meeting with Tim et al to discuss this. In any event, it will behoove us to mention 1/4- granite.

➤If Tim can provide a design drawing (formal or otherwise).

➤ Will misters be placed on the court. Have they worked well at the or are they affected by the humidity?

➤ Will there be access to a water cooler at the courts?

➤ Will the handicapped access be on both sides of the courts and enough space in between courts as well?

➤Will the association supply a score board, similar to the ones provided to the tennis club?

➤ Will there be a shaded area for players and viewers?

➤ As for food and beverage, what will be allowed on the courts? Does the liquor license cover the courts? Will there be cup holders?

➤ Will there be access to a storage cabinet? Who will have the key (club leaders/fitness center)?

➤ What are the exact rules and regulations of the association that we must follow? For example-by laws, waivers, dress code.

➤ How is the HOA used to having organizations started?
A. Using members to vote for a board, forming the membership group before the election?
B. Having a leadership group rather than Board of Directors

➤ What the HOA regulations as to waivers and/or other paper work?

Respectively submitted

Welcome to our Bocce Organization planning group communications channel.
enfeedia RSS feed publisherThe planning group will routinely and informally report on their progress in defining the organizational structure we will adopt for our Bocce Club. They may provide proposals, engage in discussions as to options they are considering, deal with pros and cons of ideas -- whatever. They will be meeting with HOA representatives to collaborate and arrive at agreeable ways they could organize. Choices may be limited. They will report to the Advisory Group and maybe get grilled as to what happened.. Who knows? Video taking not permitted 😱. In any event, actual decisions will not occur until everyone on the Friends of Bocce list have had a chance to review proposals and chime in. It's going to take focus on FUN and FAIRNESS to arrive at a consensus.
