Shalom Club "meet-and-greet" social evening on Wednesday, March 4, 2015
enfeedia RSS feed publisherShalom Club will be holding a meet-and-greet social evening on Wednesday, March 4 at the home of Nini and Ted Falconer, starting at 5 PM. This year, March 4 happens to be the Jewish holiday of Purim. Purim is one of the most joyous and fun holidays on the Jewish calendar. It commemorates a time when the Jewish people living in Persia were saved from extermination.

We are extending an invitation to any Ranch resident to join our celebration. "Shalom Club" is open to Jews of any background, their partners and friends who are interested in the continuing adventure of living Jewishly in contemporary America. We gather for conversation, learning, holidays, mutual welfare and enjoyment of our Jewish heritage.

Our Purim gathering will include heavy appetizers, wine, good company and a little background about Purim. We will also be discussing plans for other activities and events that may be of interest.

Please use the form on our Shalom Club webpage to email our RSVP to Leslie Gordon, or call 520-333-4009, and let me know what appetizer you will bring, and BYOB! Dessert will be traditional: Hammentaschen!

UPDATE: Meet-and-Greet on Thursday, December 12
enfeedia RSS feed publisherGreetings! We had a lovely, lively evening at Nini and Ted's house last Thursday. There were some new faces: Steve and Sherry Weiss are back, Marlene Diskin and Peter Bratz have just moved in, Bob and Velma Rutman have joined us, as has Joe Wright.

There is interest in seeking out Chinese food and maybe a movie on Christmas day for those of us who have no other plans. If you would like to do this, get back to me and I will put folks in touch with each other.

There is also energy for Shabbat dinners in small groups, so we can get better acquainted, and for organizing Passover (April 14-22).

I will forward separately the announcements from Saddlebrooke's Institute for Judaic Services and Studies. Rabbi Seltzer will be lecturing in January and February on cremation and the Jewish view of the afterlife. The email also includes dates for Friday night monthly services.

Some people would like to continue to gather every couple of months just as we did last week. A few people have mentioned growing up speaking Yiddish, others are considering becoming learning partners.....clearly for such a new and small group we have a great deal of intellectual, social and spiritual enthusiasm to share. What a treasure!
