Bill Henry - R.I.P.
enfeedia RSS feed publisher FeedBack ( 0) by Nancy K Rohlfing: Very sorry to report the sad news that Bill Henry passed away July 31, 2015. He was a class, and school, leader; a friend and mentor to all; a very good and generous person. See many personal comments and memories posted on the class Facebook page (SME 62 Class Reunion). We will miss Bill.

Lancers Homecoming Parade - Come Walk with Class of '62
enfeedia RSS feed publisher FeedBack ( 0) by Nancy K Rohlfing: Hello SME Classmates! I am passing along a message from Judy (Reynolds) Dutra about the upcoming SME Homecoming Parade on Friday, September 12th. If you would like to join in the fun, we will have a group walking in the parade to pass on our GLAD Challenge to the class of SME64. All of you who live close enough please join us as we walk from SME to The Village. We will meet at the Prairie Village Blue Moose at 11:00 and eat lunch. We will carpool to SME and then walk in the parade to The Village. (If you have a light blue 50th Reunion shirt please wear it...if
not wear whatever.) Don't forget comfortable shoes. If you are able to join us please e-mail JUDY so she can make our lunch reservation, and so we will know how many are walking.
(Jhdutra@everestkc.net)
The parade will probably be around 2 but that will be confirmed closer to Sept 12th. You can come to lunch even if you don't have time to walk in the parade. And vice versa - you can skip lunch but meet us at Blue Moose to carpool to SME.
It's fun and you will have a good time.
Thanks
Judy Reynolds Dutra

Lancer Day Parade 9/20 at 2 pm
enfeedia RSS feed publisher FeedBack ( 0) by Nancy K Rohlfing: Hello all - if you are in Kansas City area next Friday, you might want to join in with other Classmates of '62 and walk in the Lancer Day Parade (or cheer from the sidelines). Lancer Day is the day of the first 'home' football game. There is a parade at 2 pm - walks from school into PV shopping area. The kids do some great decorations, costumes, 'floats' etc. It's a fun day. Last year it was in the rain! Class of '63 will be walking in the parade also. Meet at 11:30 at The Blue Moose in Prairie Village if you want to visit and carpool to the school. Or meet at the school parking lot at 1:30. Parade starts at 2. It's great fun!

GLAD62 Grand Total
enfeedia RSS feed publisher FeedBack ( 0) by Nancy K Rohlfing: Steve Hahn has announced that our grand total contribution to the GLAD 62 fund within The East Fund is .... drum roll .... $8900! Congratulations to Judy Dutra for hanging in there keeping this candle lit as we discussed all the ins & outs, and to everyone who donated so generously. We did GOOD! (I can see the English majors cringing!)

enfeedia RSS feed publisher FeedBack ( 0) by Nancy K Rohlfing: When you have a minute, you can find ourselves published in the East Fund's website due to our GLAD (Golden Legacy Anniversary Donation) '62 donation. Along with our class reunion picture. I think the final donation is being made really soon.

The Books are Here!
enfeedia RSS feed publisher FeedBack ( 0) by Nancy K Rohlfing: Hello All
The Reunion Books will be in KC this weekend - God willin' and the creek don't rise. Andi Wellington Davis has inspected them and is coming this way to visit her family. We plan to have a 'pickup party' at Pam Schumacher Gradinger's on Sunday, January 27 from 3-5 pm. Come and visit awhile with fellow Lancers. If you're like me, there were lots of people at reunion events that you hardly got to visit with - so here's another chance.
Here are the particulars: 1/27/2013 3-5 pm; 3700 Wyncote Ln, Fairway, KS 66205. We'll have light refreshments so please RSVP to me at 816-651-3466 or npotter1@kc.rr.com.
If you can't make the gathering - do not despair - your book will be mailed to you. But do come if you can.
And a big 'thank you' goes out to JoAnna Senger, Andi Ellington Davis, and their whole team, for this wonderful book that will bring back those fun reunion moments, as well as update us on our classmates. And to Pam & Gary for graciously offering to have this party at their home. See you there.

My Monday, January 7, 2013
enfeedia RSS feed publisher FeedBack ( 0) by JoAnna Senger: It's time to celebrate the New Year by doing something different, something altogether startling. Hey_I know! I think I'll get about 3 or 4 shots in my back. By George, that's the ticket!!! To really get in to the swing of it all, I'll take an option on having another series later on, maybe two more series. Skip to milou! At least, I hope I can skip to milou.
Wish me luck on Monday afternoon.

I'm so excited to see these books!

enfeedia RSS feed publisher FeedBack ( 1) by Mary D Bartlett: Last Monday (3rd), Bobbie Topham and I had lunch at Venetian Theatre & Bistro in Hillsboro and it was like being back at SME - talking about all the stuff we girls talk about plus Bobbie told me all about the reunion. The food was delicious and the ambiance classic. I didn't expect either. I walked to my car sad and glad. I've been gone so long and miss seeing my friends. Thank you Bobbie and I'll see you next year.
As for all you lolling around Leawood, Overland Park, Prairie Park, Lenexa, Country Club Plaza and all over the United States, I send you my love and have a happy and safe holidays.

XOXO Mary Bartlett Dowe

Only 30 people have subscribed to the Class of '62 news!
enfeedia RSS feed publisher FeedBack ( 0) by Ken Gorman: They will receive email alerts when something new is posted there. The rest of you will be in the dark unless you routinely peruse the website for new things. Ugh. Even if you remember, you may find out something too late to be of value to you.

See that vertical red box that's stuck in position on the left edge of this webpage? Click it NOW and subscribe to email alerts for all categories so you don't miss a thing.

Clarification: Statistical musings
enfeedia RSS feed publisher FeedBack ( 0) by Philip A. Metzger: The geographical list accounts for 373 of the 580 classmates. Presumably that means there's no known address for a little over 200 of our fellow classmates.

re: statistical musings
enfeedia RSS feed publisher FeedBack ( 0) by Philip A. Metzger: The issue of further analysis of the lives of SME62ers has come up. And of course there are a million things to be curious or nosy about: marriage history, children--sex and number. Nature and level of education. Retired/not. Personal interests and dislikes. Political leanings. etc. etc. etc. Aside from deriving this information from the narratives, or even a check system, which would probably leave out questions of great interest, there are too few such narratives to make any useful generalizations. People won't even indicate on this web site whether they're coming or not! To the person who asked about posting to Facebook, I don't have an account (and don't want one) but I don't mind if someone else posts. Phil Metzger

Statistical Musings
enfeedia RSS feed publisher FeedBack ( 3) by Philip A. Metzger: Undoubtedly most of us who peruse the SME62 class reunion website are curious about the statistics that can be gleaned from the data. So I decided to do a little counting, and share the result. I did not double check my counting; if someone discovers a small error it won’t have much significance anyway, larger ones let me know. Percentages are rounded.

First, the total number of people listed as class members is 580. I did not count the M/F split, and assume it follows standard demographics, i.e. about 52% female, 48% male.

First, sad, statistic: Of the 580, 69 are reported as deceased. That’s 12%. Of the 69, 20 are female, 49 male, the latter being 71%. I’m sure there’s a larger sociological picture to be drawn about this, but without the data to do it.

Geographical distribution. SME class of 62 grads are living in 40 states and the District of Columbia, plus three overseas (2 having been exchange students). By state, the numbers are
122 - Kansas
48 - Missouri
37 - California
17 - Florida
15 - Texas
12 - Arizona
11 - Colorado
8 - Minnesota
7 - Michigan, Oklahoma, Virginia, Washington
6 - Georgia
5 - Illinois, Tennessee
4 - North Carolina, New Mexico, Oregon, South Carolina, Wisconsin
3 - Arkansas, Kentucky, Nevada, Ohio
2 - Iowa, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Nebraska, New York, Pennsylvania, Wyoming
1 - Alaska, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Mississippi, Montana, New Jersey, Rhode Island

Of the combined Kansas and Missouri total (170), 140 still live, or have returned to live, within about a 50 mile radius of SME. The Kansas folk seemed to have congregated especially closely. Only 12 of the 122 are outside the 50 mile circle. A high number of the close-in ones probably sent their children to a Shawnee Mission district school or two. And I’m just amazed that 12 of the number are living in the Shawnee Mission post office! (or the old mission itself?)

It would have been interesting to analyze the activities of the class of ‘62 from the fascinating narratives provided. However, contributions are far too spotty, and the work far too time-consuming, to undertake right now.

Communicate reunion attendance decision to classmates in Directory
enfeedia RSS feed publisher FeedBack ( 0) by Ken Gorman: DId you know you can communicate in the Directory your decision to attend the reunion to your classmates? If everyone participates, we can have real-time visibility of the reunion attendance list.

Here's how.

- Log in at the Class Page.

- Immediately above the Directory listing, find the "Select..." button and click it to pop open a drop-down list.

- Select "Reunion" in the list.

- Then click the "Submit Event" button immediately to the right of the drop-down list to trigger a Directory listing showing, in the right column of the listing, the YES and NO decisions for everyone.

- Find your name in the list and click "Yes" to indicate your decision to attend. You can reverse your decision by clicking "No". (At the get-go, everyone starts with a "No" decision.)

Favorite/Most Memorable SME Teacher
enfeedia RSS feed publisher FeedBack ( 0) by Stephen Stearns: Given earlier postings on the FaceBook Reunion page, Rowley Farnsworth is a likely winner. My favorite was Mr. Strickler, the algebra teacher who made the subject fun. (The Engineer Nerd in me is showing!) But my all-time favorite teacher was Lucretia LaFrance, my 9th grade Home Room teacher at Indian Hills. I'll always remember she drove a Peugeot--a car no one had ever heard of.
