GENERAL MEETING
MARCH 11, 2014

The meeting was called to order at 3:27 by Richard Ferris, President. The new Board members were introduced.

Social Outing - Linda Richter announced that a social outing was being planned, possibly on April 12th at either Catalina State Park or the Cadillac Chaparral Steak House. There also is a third option of a pool party at the Clubhouse. Catalina State Park would be a pot luck. There is a Ramada available at the Park that we could use.

Quail Creek- On April 8th a group of players will travel to Quail Creek for a friendly match with their Pickleball players. At this point, 32 people have signed up. Bill Reynolds said he is also speaking with Robson Ranch regarding a match with them.

Rich Ferris investigated renting a small bus for transportation to the match, but there was not enough interest in that plan to proceed. People will drive individually or in car pools.

Communication- Some individuals have expressed problems with getting timely news from the Association through emails. It was explained that there are three places on the website to get news: Club news; Special Events; and President's Corner. You must sign up for all three places individually to ensure you get all the emails from the club.

The sign up procedure was discussed. Anyone still having problems should contact one of the Board members or Ken Gorman for assistance.

Pickleball Festival - The First Annual Pickleball Festival will be held at SBR on April 19th, with qualifying matches beginning on April 14th and continuing during the week. Rich Ferris emphasized that this is not a Tournament but a time to have fun and enjoy the Pickleball experience here at the Ranch.

Bob Hills discussed the rules and bracketing for the festival. It is a double elimination match so if you lose a match you are not immediately eliminated but drop to the losers' bracket. Courts are blocked out for the Festival for the week.

There will be a blind draw close to the beginning of the Festival to select partners. When a team wins, they will split and have a new partner for the next match. Final matches on the 19th will have referees.

An appeal was made for help during the Festival at Scorer's Tables, moving chairs, water supply, etc.

Coaching - The Saddlebrooke coaches, who put on a clinic here recently, suggested that our own 3.0 and 3.5 players could coach the 2.5 and below players.

Miscellaneous - Players were asked to keep an eye out for a black bag of Pickleballs that have gone missing. A new order of 5 dozen has just been received.

The Treasurer's report reported there is $2,504.50 in the bank at this time.

There being no additional business, the meeting was adjourned at 4:23 p.m.

Pickleball Association Meeting

Minutes from the previous meeting have been posted on the website for review. A motion to accept the minutes as posted was made and seconded.

Rich Ferris mentioned that we are replacing cracked balls at the cost of $700-800 per year.

Bob Hills presented an extensive report and update on the proposed new pickleball court complex. Club representatives will be meeting with Robson management this month to discuss. Bob asked that any suggestions regarding the complex be given to the Committee and not Robson employees to avoid confusion. The purpose of the proposed court expansion plan is for quality and safety of play, ability to host large events, and aesthetics. A heartfelt thank you was given to Michelle LaBere for her efforts in drawing the plans for the new complex.

The secretary reported that a comparison of paid members versus waivers signed showed that 27 members still need to complete waivers. The waivers are a Robson Communities' requirement. We will be contacting these members shortly to obtain their waivers.

Steve Baer reported that club membership now stands at 135 individuals. Of that number, 48% are women and 52% men.

Chris Jerman reported on skill level testing. To date 25 people have tested with an 85% pass rate. Challengers need to score 21 points over three games to advance to the next level. At present, testing is conducted every two weeks. An individual may play with the level they are testing for two weeks in advance of the test. If an individual does not pass, they may request to retest in one month. Requests to test are limited to three per year. Volunteers are needed to help with this activity. Suggestions regarding this program may be given to any board member for consideration.

Bill Reynolds discussed a new program currently in development to provide skill level enhancement classes. He also mentioned most tournaments will be opening for signups in September. A list may be found on the website. Bill has also found a pickleball paddle provider who will put the club logo on the paddle face.

Elida Jerman presented two new types of ladies' shirts for $15 and $18. She suggested sample sizes should be tried on before ordering.

Rich Ferris mentioned that we need more active volunteers in the organization. With the continued growth of the club and the expansion proposal, it will be imperative that more people are involved to make this a successful program. Rich also expressed appreciation for those who have already given untold hours of their own time to the program.

It was asked if the court reservation time schedule on the website is accurate. The schedule on the website matches the one in the Fitness Center.

The treasurer reported dues receipts of $3,043.59 and expenses of $2,534.59 for a net difference of $509.00. Current checking account balance is $1,433.20.

Rich Ferris asked for any additional questions or comments.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 2:55 p.m.

Respectfully submitted

9/24/14

The meeting was called to order at 2:00pm at the home of Rich Ferris, President.

Rich asked Beth Berzon, Treasurer to order 5 dozen pickleballs.

It was decided to again host a Spring Pickleball Event at the Ranch. Rich said he would ask the Steering Committee to plan the event.

There was discussion regarding implementing a formal guest policy. It was decided that a formal policy was not required at this time, however there are two requirements for guests:
Guests are required to sign a waiver before playing. Waivers can be obtained at the court in the display case and turned in at the fitness center.
Level of play will be decided on a case by case basis. Club members assisting at the courts will assess the level of play for the guest.

Rich stated that it was time to form a nominating committee for next year's officers. He asked Beth and Alice Ann to contact some members in the next few days to serve on the committee.

The idea was presented by Beth to send cards to club members who were ill, injured or had other significant events in their lives. Alice Ann will purchase a supply of cards. Please notify her if you know someone should receive a card.

There will be a Skill Level committee meeting when Steve Baer returns.

Chris also mentioned there should be a review of court times and levels. This will be referred to the Steering committee and Skill Level representatives.

Testing committee: A question has arisen regarding persons attempting to move up a level by playing in a tournament at a higher level instead of testing. It was reiterated that a person can either test or use tournament play if he/she won in the tournament. Merely playing at a higher level does not qualify.

Sally Grasso has taken over shirt orders. Beth discussed the idea of paying through Paypal. It was also decided that a small supply of shirt inventory should be kept on hand and restocked as needed.

Club dues are due on January 1st. Beth said many people start paying them in November and December.

The meeting was adjourned at 2:50pm.
